Think of the passion of John Keevers that inspired so many others to start protecting a heritage.

How John Kennedy fondly remembers how his family used to save kerosene to power the Harvest. And, explaining the delight of being a child and seeing the Harvester come down the road from Kiely’s Cross. We saw it when James McCarthy passionately remembered a big snow fall in 1947 that totally covered Ardmore.

It exists in the way the Burke Sisters carefully hold a medal and hat that proudly connects them to a past generation. He had gone to meet the King of England as one of the heroes of the Teaser. Such a massive event over a 100 years ago.

It’s seeing Ed Mooney with a definite smile when recounting the formation of the Drama Group. And, how they went on to be National Winners. It’s the feeling you get when you spend time on the Cliff Walk.

It’s the feeling our migrating residents get each summer as they turn into Ardmore, and think “this is what its all about”.

And, then there is how a little girl hiding in a box witnessed a brutal murder. This lead to two local brothers being put to death. The passion Paula King displayed when talking about the seashells around Ardmore. Tommy Mooney talking about the lookout or indeed anything else in Ardmore.

We also heard how Maureen Moore Tarbox shared how she traveled the departure route of Ellen Power. Her grandmother had gone by foot or farmer’s cart, from their cottage to Ferry Point to catch the ferry to Youghal, the train to Cobh, and the boat to America. “She had to … She was the oldest and had to go”.

It’s in the sad passing of the fishing industry of Ardmore.

We’ve all also seen how a siege in Ardmore saw over a 100 being hanged on a single day in Ardmore. How the lone camera work of Dr. Murphy in a crowd on a single night inspired memories for countless generations. And, how the pictures of the Powers and Troys remembered times gone by.

All these, and so much more, bring our heritage to life.
